Bilateral Trade with China up 25.09%

Phnom Penh: Two-way trade between Cambodia and China has seen a year-on-year increase of 25.09% in the first five months of 2021. Between January and May, trade receipts totalled $3.9-billion. Figures from the Ministry of Commerce show that during this period, Cambodia exported over $558-million worth of goods to China, up 56.42% compared to the same period last year. The kingdom’s imports from China totalled $3.3-billion, up 21.05%.

Cambodia mostly exported agricultural products including rice, mangoes and bananas to China. In turn, it imported industrial products, raw materials and construction materials from the People’s Republic.

Cambodia and China expect trading volumes to increase sharply after a Free Trade Agreement comes into effect. It was signed last October and is expected to be formally ratified later this year.
